Airbnb and the FIFA World Cup 2026 Houston Host Committee announced on April 13 that they set a new Guinness World Records title for the longest continuous line of soccer balls. The event took place at Hermann Park in Houston, where more than 1,000 soccer balls were lined up along the Green Corridor.

The record-setting event brought together hundreds of local youth soccer players, families, community leaders, and was led by participants from various leagues and non-profit organizations. Notable attendees included FIFA World Cup legend DaMarcus Beasley, artist Bun B, local elected officials, and an official adjudicator from Guinness World Records who verified the achievement.

The occasion marked Airbnb’s investment of over $1 million in Houston through its FIFA Host City Impact Program. This program supports initiatives such as Impact Houston 26’s Green Corridor and Grow the Game to ensure long-term benefits for communities hosting tournament events. “Today’s event is about more than breaking a world record, it’s about celebrating Houston and investing in its future,” said Laura Spanjian, Airbnb’s Head of Global Public Policy. “As the world prepares to come to Houston for the FIFA World Cup 2026, we’re proud to support programs that ensure local communities, especially young people, can be part of that moment in a meaningful and lasting way.”

After setting the record, all soccer balls used were donated to Grow the Game—a collaboration between tournament organizers and local sports authorities—to help underserved youth access free or low-cost programming like clinics and tournaments. Chris Canetti, President of FIFA World Cup 2026 said: “Houston is showing the world what it means to come together as a community. With local youth leading the way, this moment reflects the energy, diversity, and spirit that will define Houston’s role as a host city in 2026.”

This initiative follows Airbnb’s December 2025 announcement supporting projects like a sustainable Green Corridor connecting key tournament sites. During FIFA World Cup events in Houston next year, Airbnb hosts are expected to welcome over 31,000 guests with an estimated $372 million economic impact according to Deloitte.

Airbnb enables hosts worldwide to share homes or offer unique experiences such as cooking classes or guided tours according to its official website. The company operates as a marketplace connecting guests with hosts across more than 220 countries and regions according to its official website. Founded after renting air mattresses in an apartment to cover rent costs according to its official website, Airbnb now offers entire homes or private rooms alongside these experiences according to its official website.
