Airbnb announced the top travel trends for fall 2024, including shoulder season savings and popular destinations for autumn getaways. The company also highlighted affordable cities and trending spots for travelers seeking off-season deals.

According to a press release by Airbnb, fall travel trends show that off-season destinations offer affordability compared to peak seasons like summer and winter. Travel during September through November has typically resulted in lower costs for accommodations, with rates dropping across various cities in the U.S. These savings make fall an attractive time for travelers seeking to avoid crowds while benefiting from lower prices.

In addition to affordability, certain U.S. cities stand out for offering significant discounts during the fall season. According to Airbnb, cities such as Myrtle Beach, SC, Norfolk, VA, and Bangor, ME, have seen substantial reductions in accommodation costs. The report highlights these locations as prime destinations for travelers looking to experience the autumn season at a lower price, making them appealing options for budget-conscious travelers.

The report also notes a shift in travel patterns driven by events and seasonal attractions. “Event-cations,” or travel centered around events like festivals or concerts, have gained popularity. Destinations like Miami Gardens, FL, and Indianapolis, IN, are showing increased interest. Internationally, destinations like Munich, Germany, and Tokyo, Japan remain top choices for American travelers, particularly for fall activities such as Oktoberfest and enjoying seasonal foliage.

Airbnb was founded in 2007 and boasts over 5 million Hosts who have welcomed over 1.5 billion guest arrivals across nearly every country globally. As of Dec. 31, 2023, Airbnb has had over 7.7 million active listings in 100,000 cities and towns across 220 countries and regions.
