Airbnb has announced that Sungai Watch, an environmental organization in Indonesia, is among the latest recipients of its Community Fund grants. This funding will aid Sungai Watch in addressing plastic pollution in rivers and improving waste management to enhance the environmental health of Indonesian waterways.

The Airbnb Community Fund, established in 2020 as a $100 million initiative, supports local communities globally. Each year, Airbnb collaborates with hosts to identify significant issues and select nonprofit organizations for donations. The involvement of hosts aims to ensure that the fund makes a meaningful impact locally.

Amanpreet Bajaj, Country Head of Airbnb Southeast and India, stated, “At Airbnb, we believe in the power of community and are proud to support Sungai Watch in their mission to reduce plastic pollution and protect Indonesia’s rivers. Their commitment to sustainable environmental practices and community-based solutions aligns closely with our values, and this grant will enable them to expand their impact.”

Sam Bencheghib, Co-Founder of Sungai Watch, expressed gratitude for being chosen as a recipient: “We are truly grateful to be selected as a recipient of the 2025 Airbnb Community Fund. This support will help us strengthen our daily operations and empower our team on the ground as we continue tackling Indonesia’s waste challenges.”

Since its inception, the Airbnb Community Fund has distributed over $36 million across nearly 70 countries. The current round of grants was allocated from July 2024 through early 2025.
