Airbnb announced on Apr. 9 that its most wishlisted listings across all 50 states showcase a wide range of unique stays, reflecting travelers’ growing interest in distinctive and memorable accommodations.

The findings are based on a recent survey, which found that more than half of respondents said a unique or interesting listing would inspire them to visit a destination they had not previously considered. This trend underscores the importance of the stay itself as an integral part of travel experiences for many guests.

According to Airbnb, travelers are increasingly seeking out unconventional options such as cabins shaped like cameras, rustic western saloons, remodeled silos, off-the-grid treehouses, and steelhouse sculptures. The company said that “86% of surveyed travelers say they’re interested in visiting remote or rural destinations—reflecting a broader shift where the stay itself is just as memorable as the destination.”

Regional trends were also noted: In the Northeast, nature-themed stays like modern treehouses and converted silo houses are among the most popular. The South’s top picks include waterfront escapes such as lakeside retreats and houseboats, while Western states feature A-frames near national parks and off-grid desert domes for those looking to unplug from city life.

Airbnb enables hosts to share homes and local experiences with millions of users worldwide according to the official website. The platform operates in more than 220 countries and regions according to its official website, connecting guests with hosts for unique accommodations and experiences globally according to Airbnb’s official website. The company offers various lodging options including entire homes, private rooms, unique venues, cooking classes, and guided tours as reported by Airbnb’s official website.

The company began when founders rented air mattresses in their apartment to cover rent costs according to Airbnb’s official website. Today it continues to serve both hosts and guests around the world through its marketplace model as detailed by Airbnb’s official site.
