Airbnb announced on May 7 its financial results for the first quarter of 2026, reporting revenue growth of 18 percent year-over-year to $2.7 billion and net income of $160 million. The company said gross booking value grew by 19 percent, with guests spending nearly $30 billion on Airbnb in the quarter.

The report outlines ongoing momentum across Airbnb’s business as it continues to innovate and expand internationally. Nights booked through the app increased by 22 percent year-over-year, now making up 63 percent of total nights booked. Growth was especially strong among first-time bookers in Brazil, Japan, and India. “First-time booker growth also accelerated to 10 percent—the highest growth since early 2022—with particularly strong acceleration in Brazil, Japan, and India,” the company said.

Airbnb noted that despite macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty—such as elevated cancellations in Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), and Asia Pacific due to conflict in the Middle East—its model remains resilient. “When travel patterns shift, Airbnb adapts with them… We have millions of homes, everywhere in the world, at every price point,” according to the announcement.

The company highlighted several initiatives from Q1: about one-fifth of global gross booking value came from Reserve Now, Pay Later bookings; improvements were made for hosts including better pricing tools; new categories of services and experiences were piloted; partnerships expanded with Delta Air Lines; a hotel pilot was scaled up; and event strategies such as those around major sporting events like the Olympic Games Milano Cortina helped drive supply and demand.

AI-driven innovation is also playing a growing role at Airbnb. The company reported that nearly sixty percent of code produced by engineers is now coauthored with AI systems—a rate about twice industry average—and over forty percent of customer support issues handled via AI Assistant are resolved without human agents.

Looking ahead to summer releases and upcoming global events like FIFA World Cup 2026, Airbnb plans further expansion into services, experiences, hotels partnerships—and expects continued momentum through its core business areas. The company serves hosts and guests in more than 220 countries worldwide offering unique accommodations such as entire homes or private rooms alongside local experiences like cooking classes or guided tours, according to the official website.
