As the summer season nears, Airbnb is set to deploy its proprietary anti-party technology across the United States for Memorial Day and Fourth of July. This marks the fourth year that Airbnb has taken such measures to prevent disruptive parties, which are prohibited on their platform.

Airbnb states that while incidents of disruptive parties are uncommon, they remain committed to minimizing risks and aiding hosts in fostering positive experiences in their homes and neighborhoods. The anti-party technology is designed to identify and block certain attempts to book one-to-two-night stays in entire home listings that might be at higher risk for disruptive gatherings. The system evaluates various factors, including the type of listing, duration of stay, distance from the guest’s primary location, and whether the booking is last-minute.

In 2024 alone, these defenses deterred around 51,000 people across the U.S. from booking entire home listings during key summer holiday weekends. Specific numbers include approximately 7,750 individuals in Texas, 7,400 in Florida, and 7,030 in California.

The technology forms part of a broader strategy by Airbnb to encourage responsible travel and help hosts secure their properties during periods of high demand when disruption potential increases. These measures have aided hosts in protecting their homes and ensuring neighborhood tranquility.

Airbnb’s enhanced anti-party holiday system operates alongside global reservation screening technology active throughout the year. This utilizes machine learning to identify potentially risky bookings both domestically and internationally. Since introducing a global party ban policy in 2020, Airbnb reports a more than 50% reduction in party reports within the U.S., with less than approximately 0.06% of reservations resulting in a party report last year.

Additional measures and resources are available from Airbnb to support hosts, guests, local communities, and promote responsible travel practices.
