Amazon.com has announced its Best Books of the Year So Far list for 2025, with Charlotte McConaghy’s novel “Wild Dark Shore” securing the top spot. The Amazon Books Editors described the novel as one that leaves readers “breathless, wide-eyed, and in awe of the extraordinary power of fiction.” Other notable titles in the top five include “King of Ashes” by S.A. Cosby, “No More Tears: The Dark Secrets of Johnson & Johnson” by Gardiner Harris, “The Emperor of Gladness” by Ocean Vuong, and “Sunrise on the Reaping” by Suzanne Collins.
The selection process involves Amazon Books Editors reviewing thousands of books across various genres to curate their recommendations. These selections aim to help customers discover new reads that entertain, inspire, and educate. This year’s list also features categories such as literature and fiction, mystery and thrillers, romance, history, biographies and memoirs, cookbooks, children’s books, romantasy, and discovery reads (debut novels).
Charlotte McConaghy expressed her gratitude upon learning about her book’s recognition: “I’m so grateful for this honor. It moves me deeply to think of my novel making its way into the hands of readers.” Sarah Gelman, editorial director at Amazon Books, noted that selecting these books is a thorough process involving reading across genres to find stories that evoke emotions like wonder and introspection.
Other highlighted works include Leila Mottley’s “The Girls Who Grew Big,” Geraldine Brooks’ memoir “Memorial Days,” Jakob Kerr’s mystery “Dead Money,” Taylor Jenkins Reid’s space-themed love story “Atmosphere,” and Tina Knowles’ memoir “Matriarch.”
