Amazon has announced that it now operates over 13,500 Rivian Electric Delivery Vans across various U.S. cities and aims to expand this fleet. The expansion is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions annually.

In 2019, Amazon partnered with Rivian to create a custom electric delivery vehicle fleet aimed at reducing carbon emissions, according to About Amazon. The goal of this partnership is to have 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030, which will contribute to Amazon’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

The first Rivian electric delivery vehicles hit the road in 2022, initially launched in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Seattle. By 2023, the fleet had expanded to include cities in Ohio and Northern Kentucky, with vehicles now operating in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Lexington. As of July 2024, Amazon’s fleet includes over 15,000 Rivian EDVs (Electric Delivery Vehicles), making it the largest fleet of electric delivery vans in the United States.

Since their deployment, Amazon’s Rivian EDVs have driven over 130 million miles with zero tailpipe emissions. In addition to reducing carbon footprints, these vehicles have delivered more than 800 million packages across the country, highlighting their efficiency and reliability in last-mile delivery operations.

According to RivianTrackr, Amazon is expanding its Rivian Electric Delivery Vans to Europe, with over 300 new vans hitting the road in Germany. In the U.S., these vans are already operating in cities such as New York, Chicago, and Dallas.

Amazon provides a range of services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, and media distribution. The company operates various devices and services such as Alexa and Fire TV and offers cloud solutions through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Its operations include logistics and customer service; it also delivers entertainment through platforms like Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
