Amazon has announced a $100 million commitment to accelerate the production of affordable housing in Bellevue. The initiative aims to shorten construction timelines by one to two years, enabling quicker access for low-to-moderate income families. This investment is part of Amazon’s broader $3.6 billion effort to create and preserve 35,000 affordable homes across various regions including Puget Sound, National Capital, and Nashville.

The company is also adding $1.4 billion to its Housing Equity Fund, which will support the creation and preservation of an additional 14,000 affordable homes. Overall, Amazon’s investment in affordable housing now exceeds $3.6 billion.

David Zapolsky, Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer at Amazon, shared the news during the groundbreaking ceremony of Spring District in Bellevue. This BRIDGE Housing Community will provide 234 affordable homes through a transit-oriented development near the Spring District Link rail station. It will include studio to three-bedroom apartments for households earning 60% or less of the Area Median Income, with forty units designated for individuals with developmental disabilities. Completion is expected by November 2026.

Zapolsky stated: “I’m excited to announce Amazon is committing $100 million to the City of Bellevue to fund high-priority affordable housing initiatives as we break ground on Spring District, one of our largest Puget Sound developments.” He added that this commitment would help move closer towards securing more affordable housing for those in need.
