Amazon is aiming to achieve its fastest delivery speeds for Prime members worldwide in 2025, with more items arriving the same or next day than ever before. The company is implementing a range of innovations in technology, logistics, and delivery methods to meet these goals.

One new feature allows Prime members to add eligible items from across Amazon to upcoming deliveries with a single tap. According to Amazon, customers have used this “Add to Delivery” option over 50 million times so far.

The company is also investing over $4 billion to expand its delivery network, focusing on small towns and rural communities. By the end of 2025, Amazon plans to bring Same-Day and Next-Day delivery to more than 4,000 smaller cities and towns by transforming existing rural stations into hybrid hubs that store inventory on-site.

Advanced machine learning algorithms are being used by Amazon to predict which products will be popular locally. This enables the company to stock those items closer to where they are needed, reducing transportation distances and allowing faster shipping.

In healthcare logistics, Amazon Pharmacy has launched Same-Day Delivery of prescription medications in several major U.S. cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Indianapolis, Miami, Phoenix, Greater Detroit, and Seattle. The service is expected to reach nearly half of U.S. customers by the end of 2025. Additionally, kiosks will deliver medications within minutes at One Medical offices in Los Angeles later this year.

To adapt deliveries for different environments, Amazon uses various specialized vehicles: e-cargo bikes operate in congested urban areas like Amsterdam and Munich; electric vans from Rivian are deployed across the U.S. and Germany; mules carry packages across rough terrain in the Grand Canyon; drones deliver orders in Arizona; and wooden boats serve island communities off Maine’s coast.

Amazon has also emphasized sustainability at its facilities. A Same-Day Delivery site in Sacramento became North America’s first fulfillment center with Zero Carbon Certification from Living Future. The site incorporates all-electric HVAC systems and solar panels that are expected to generate up to 80% of its electricity once fully operational.

Within pharmacy operations, AI and robotics streamline prescription processing at Amazon Pharmacy. Generative AI clarifies information from prescriptions while robotic arms assist with filling orders—reducing handling time significantly so pharmacists can focus on patient care.

These efforts reflect Amazon’s broader strategy of using technology and infrastructure investments to speed up deliveries for customers across diverse regions.
