Amazon Pharmacy has announced the expansion of its RxPass subscription service to Texas. The program allows Prime members, including Medicare beneficiaries, to access over 50 commonly prescribed medications for a flat rate of $5 per month. This includes free two-day delivery and same-day service in certain areas.

The expansion is significant for Texas, a state that ranks fourth highest in the percentage of adults with three or more chronic conditions. Nearly 2 million Texans living in pharmacy deserts and managing multiple chronic illnesses are expected to benefit from this service.

“At a time when nearly half of the U.S. population is managing chronic conditions, bringing affordable and convenient access to medications through our expansion of RxPass to customers in 48 U.S. states will help many manage their conditions more easily,” said John Love, Vice President of Amazon Pharmacy. “Amazon Pharmacy will continue to leverage Amazon’s customer-obsessed approach and extensive delivery network infrastructure to ensure customers enjoy the ease and convenience of managing their health through fast medication delivery.”

RxPass has been shown to improve medication adherence among people with chronic illnesses. According to Tess Carey, Senior Pharmacist at Amazon Pharmacy: “Many customers, especially older adults, face multiple barriers when managing chronic conditions that could be life-altering. With RxPass, customers can enjoy the benefits of having affordable, reliable medication access, which will increase adherence and help save lives.”

Older adults are a key demographic for this program; 89% of those aged 65 and older take prescription medications, with more than half managing four or more prescriptions.

Healthcare providers can prescribe directly to Amazon Pharmacy as they would any other pharmacy. Customers have the option to transfer existing prescriptions easily. Licensed pharmacists are available around the clock for any questions about medications.

With this latest rollout, RxPass is now available in 48 states across the country as part of Amazon’s effort to make healthcare services more accessible and affordable.

Amazon Pharmacy offers additional services such as sorting medications by date and time into packets delivered at no extra cost for those on multiple daily prescriptions.
