Alexa+ is now available in the Amazon Music app on iOS and Android, expanding its music intelligence capabilities to more users. This new feature leverages generative AI to provide a conversational music experience, allowing users to explore genres, artist influences, discographies, and track origins through natural dialogue.

According to Amazon, Alexa+ enables deeper discovery and engagement with music. The company reports that customers have explored music three times more with Alexa+ compared to the original Alexa, and those seeking recommendations listened to nearly 70% more music.

All customers participating in Alexa+ Early Access can now use the feature within the Amazon Music app across all subscription tiers. The rollout will continue with updates on broader availability expected soon.

A new “Insights” section is also being introduced in Amazon Music, offering users a way to review their personal listening history.

Alexa+ supports complex queries beyond basic commands. Users can ask for songs based on partial lyrics or specific contexts such as movie scenes. For example:

“What’s a popular Addison Rae song that was recently released?”
“What song has lyrics about taking my horse to the old town road?”
“Which song has the lyrics, ‘Catch me or I’ll go Houdini’?”
“What’s the song that plays in the opening credits of The Sopranos?”

The system allows for nuanced requests regarding musical preferences—such as mood, era, region, or instrumentation—and refines recommendations through ongoing conversation. Example prompts include:

“Play pop songs from the ’90s from different artists, including Madonna, but skip the boy bands.”
“Play more songs like this but from different artists and with faster tempos.”
“I’m hosting a dinner party tonight. Can you recommend something jazzy but contemporary that won’t overpower the conversation?”
“Play flamenco-inspired music that incorporates modern beats, similar to Rosalía’s musical style, and include only artists from Spain.”
“Can you recommend new music that would make me seem cool to my 13-year-old daughter without trying too hard?”

Playlist creation is also enhanced by Alexa+, which can generate lists tailored for specific activities or emotional settings—for instance: “make me a playlist for Sunday reset,” or “create a playlist for driving along the Pacific Coast Highway at sunset.” These playlists are dynamic; users can save them in their library and update them later.

Alexa+ serves as an interactive source of information about music culture—including historical facts, technical production details, chart positions, festival lineups and artist relationships. Sample queries include:

“Create a playlist of ’90s underground hip-hop artists just from New York City.”
“What’s the story behind the lyrics to ‘Hotel California’?”
“Recommend some artists that were representative of the London punk scene in the ’70s.”
“I’m going to Camp Flog Gnaw. Who are the artists performing for 2025? Can you tell me more about those artists?”

Amazon states: “Alexa+ engages in natural dialogue that mirrors talking with a knowledgeable friend about music.”

The beta version of these AI-powered search features will be accessible today for select Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers in the United States.
