Amazon has announced the expansion of its telehealth service, Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit, to include children ages 2-11. The service offers virtual healthcare for a range of common pediatric conditions, such as pink eye, head lice, eczema, bug bites, contact dermatitis, and asthma medication renewals. Families can access care from certified family care providers and pay a flat fee per visit, with message-based consultations starting at $29 and video visits at $49. No insurance, Prime membership, or Amazon One Medical membership is required.

Each visit includes a personalized treatment plan and prescriptions if needed. Prescriptions can be filled through Amazon Pharmacy or any pharmacy the customer chooses. Amazon Pharmacy offers transparent pricing, 24/7 pharmacist access, and free nationwide delivery, including same-day delivery in some U.S. cities.

Bergen Elsa, general manager for Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit, said, “As a parent, I am all too familiar with taking a child who doesn’t feel well to urgent care and waiting over an hour, only to spend ten minutes with a clinician. This service makes it easier for families to connect with trusted family care providers, day or night, saving time and money while providing peace of mind and helping kids feel better sooner.”

Parents or guardians can browse treatable conditions at health.amazon.com/children. After adding a minor profile for their child, they fill out a brief intake form with the child’s medical history and symptoms. A board-certified family practice physician or licensed family nurse practitioner then reviews the information and follows up with a treatment plan. Payment can be made by credit card, Flexible Spending Account, or Health Savings Account.

The service is intended for families without insurance or those who prefer not to use insurance for occasional healthcare needs. It currently treats conditions such as pink eye, head lice, eczema, contact dermatitis, impetigo, fungal rashes like ringworm, bug bites, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, fifth disease, roseola, poison ivy, diaper rash, and offers renewals for EpiPen and asthma medications.

Natasha Bhuyan, MD, family physician and national medical director for Amazon One Medical, stated, “We are here 24/7 to help parents who need quick medical guidance to determine the appropriate level of care when their child is developing concerning symptoms. This service isn’t meant to replace a family’s relationship with their child’s pediatrician, but rather to serve as a convenient option for those ‘in-between’ moments for parents with time-sensitive concerns who don’t already have on-demand access through a One Medical membership.”

For families seeking ongoing care, many Amazon One Medical offices provide pediatric services. Scheduled in-office and remote visits can be billed to insurance. One Medical members have access to on-demand video chats and secure messaging for an additional fee of $99 per year or $9 per month for Prime members.

Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit is positioned as a cost-effective alternative to urgent care. It provides access to 24/7 messaging (in certain states) or video visits for more than 40 common health concerns. All visits include 14 days of follow-up access to providers.
