Amazon highlights Puget Sound community investments to support local economy

Amazon has announced an update on its community investments in the Puget Sound region, which includes Seattle, Bellevue, and surrounding areas. The announcement highlights efforts to strengthen the community, support employees, and boost the local economy.

According to Amazon’s “Amazon in the community: Here’s what’s happening in Seattle, Bellevue, and the Puget Sound” page, the company outlines its long-term commitment to the region where it was founded and operates its global headquarters. The update describes how Amazon’s efforts include community partnership programs, employee engagement initiatives, infrastructure investments, and support for local small businesses. Amazon emphasizes that these investments are intended to reinforce its presence in the Puget Sound region while creating shared economic and social value for the communities where its employees live and work.

The same source reports that Amazon has committed more than $720 million through its Housing Equity Fund in the Puget Sound region to support the creation or preservation of over 9,900 affordable homes. Of this amount, $230 million is dedicated specifically to Seattle. This initiative reflects Amazon’s recognition of housing affordability challenges in the region and its effort to provide long-term affordability—some properties funded provide affordable housing for 99 years. By supporting housing near transit and employment hubs, Amazon aims to enable more equitable access to jobs, services, and community infrastructure.

The community update also notes that Amazon employees across the Puget Sound participated in its Global Month of Volunteering. More than 7,600 employees volunteered across over 580 events in partnership with more than 220 community organizations. Efforts included park clean-ups, food bank service, and small-business support. Moreover, Amazon has delivered more than 4.5 million meals in the Puget Sound region alone since 2020 through its Community Delivery program.
