Amazon India announced on May 12 the expansion of health and insurance benefits for nearly 90,000 delivery associates across its operations network. The expanded benefits include outpatient department coverage for routine medical expenses, increased hospitalization support, and compensation for temporary or permanent disabilities. Mediclaim coverage will be raised up to ₹1.5 lakh, OPD expenses of up to ₹10,000 are now covered, and group personal accident coverage has been extended up to ₹10 lakh.

The company said these wellness benefits cover associates as well as up to three family members each year. They include unlimited multilingual virtual doctor consultations and two free in-person OPD visits per family annually. Delivery associates will also receive discounts on diagnostics, pharmacy services, dental care, eye care, and access to preventive health tools.

To further support the wellbeing of its workforce, Amazon has organized nationwide health camps in partnership with a third-party insurer. These camps provide free health check-ups such as eye examinations, dental check-ups, BMI assessments, and general physician consultations at last-mile delivery stations across India.

Salim Memon, Director – Operations at Amazon India said: “As we continue to invest in our operations network, infrastructure, and frontline workforce across India, the safety and wellbeing of our delivery associates remain a top priority. We have expanded insurance coverage across OPD, hospitalization, and accident benefits to provide more comprehensive support, and are also rolling out nationwide health camps offering free check-ups and preventive care. These initiatives are part of our recent ₹2,800 crore investment to further strengthen associate well-being and scale our operations infrastructure across the country.”

The company recently announced an investment exceeding INR 2,800 crore (approximately USD 300 million) aimed at strengthening associate safety measures while scaling logistics capabilities. This is part of Amazon’s broader commitment to invest over $35 billion in India by 2030 focused on business expansion including AI-driven digitization initiatives according to its official website.

Additional programs highlighted include Project Ashray—dedicated rest points called Ashray Centres that offer amenities such as air-conditioned seating areas; ambulance services; emergency support through partnerships like Dial 4242; mandatory pre-trip vehicle checks; real-time weather alerts; defensive driving training during monsoons; extra rest breaks during extreme heat conditions—all designed for associate safety.
