Amazon announced on May 27 the launch of its Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio smart speakers with Alexa in India, aiming to provide premium audio experiences. The new devices are powered by Amazon’s AZ3 custom silicon chips for fast performance and feature Omnisense technology, which enables automated smart home routines using presence, motion, and temperature detection.
Both Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio come equipped with Alexa, allowing users to play music, manage compatible smart home appliances, set timers or alarms, check the weather, or make shopping lists through voice commands. Malvika Jethwani, Echo and Smart Home Country Lead at Amazon India, said, “With Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio, we’re delivering premium audio experiences that raise the bar for smart speakers. Echo Dot Max delivers improved bass through a redesigned audio architecture and Echo Studio offers spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, with Alexa built into both. But we also know that smart speakers today go far beyond audio—our customers use them as their smart home control centre, daily assistant, and family companion. Both these devices feature Omnisense, our custom sensor platform that senses presence in the room, detects motion, and reads temperature so the smart home responds proactively. We can’t wait for customers in India to experience these new devices that offer premium audio, intelligent automation, and Alexa—all in one device.”
Echo Dot Max is designed to deliver nearly three times more bass than its predecessor (Echo Dot 5th Gen) through a two-way speaker system featuring a high-excursion woofer for deep bass and a custom tweeter for high notes. The device’s redesigned architecture provides double the air space compared to previous models to enhance bass performance. Meanwhile, the Echo Studio supports room-adapting spatial audio with Dolby Atmos technology for surround sound effects.
Customers can stream music from providers such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, JioSaavn or Audible (subscription fees may apply). Both devices enable users to pair Alexa-compatible appliances like lights or fans via built-in hubs supporting Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Thread Matter or Bluetooth protocols; this makes setup straightforward. Notably, Echo Dot Max is the first model in its lineup to include a built-in hub.
The AZ3 chip improves wake-word detection by nearly 50% on both devices while enabling better conversation recognition; an advanced version (AZ3 Pro) powers the Echo Studio specifically. Customers can connect up to five units of either model with compatible Fire TV sticks for an enhanced home theater experience.
Both products incorporate privacy features such as microphone controls plus options within the Alexa app to view or delete recordings. Pricing starts at ₹10,099 for Echo Dot Max and ₹23,099 for Echo Studio on Amazon.in and Flipkart; color options vary by model.
Prime members are eligible for 5% cashback using select credit cards along with free delivery nationwide. The new speakers will also be compatible with Alexa+, Amazon’s generative AI-powered assistant when available locally.
