Amazon has announced the addition of a professional-level certification for generative AI developers through its Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform. This expansion brings AWS’s AI and machine learning portfolio to four credentials, aimed at helping organizations find skilled talent and enhancing career opportunities.

According to Amazon’s official press release, the newly launched Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional certification builds on an existing suite of AI credentials. These include the AI Practitioner, Machine Learning Engineer – Associate, and Data Engineer – Associate certifications. The programs are designed to assist individuals—from students and business professionals to advanced developers—in demonstrating their knowledge of AI tools, responsible model implementation, and data pipeline management. Amazon said that these certifications were developed to address “the growing global need for trusted AI expertise” as organizations integrate generative AI into their operations.

In the same announcement, Amazon cited research indicating that professionals with verified AI skills earn up to 47% higher salaries in IT roles and more than 40% higher pay in fields such as sales, marketing, and finance. The four AWS certifications validate essential skills like AI model deployment, foundation model selection, prompt engineering, and scalable data infrastructure design. To prepare learners, Amazon offers free and low-cost training through AWS Skill Builder, which provides over 135 courses in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and generative AI—making technical education more accessible globally.

According to Bloomberg Technology, job postings referencing “generative AI” have increased by over 250% year-over-year in 2025. This underscores the urgent need for professionals with validated AI credentials. Amazon’s expansion of its certification portfolio aligns with this labor market shift by helping bridge the global AI talent gap through structured learning and professional recognition. The new AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional certification will open for beta registration on November 18, 2025.

Amazon’s official company overview describes it as a global technology company headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It operates across e-commerce, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital innovation sectors. Through AWS, Amazon provides a comprehensive cloud platform and is recognized as the largest corporate investor in workforce training programs worldwide. With initiatives like AWS Skill Builder and its expanded certification portfolio, Amazon continues its mission to democratize access to AI education and build a skilled global workforce.
