Amazon has announced a series of new community initiatives and investments aimed at supporting education, food access, sustainability, economic development, and hyperlocal partnerships in U.S. data center communities. This information was disclosed in a company press release.

According to Amazon’s press release, the company has partnered with Goodr and Newton County Schools to open a no-cost grocery store inside Alcovy High School in Georgia. This initiative is designed to assist families facing transportation and food access barriers. Eligible households can schedule monthly visits and access emergency support from the store, which is stocked with fresh produce, proteins, and culturally relevant staples. The initiative aligns with Amazon’s broader commitment to strengthening data center communities and helping students and families thrive near Amazon Web Services (AWS) facilities.

The release further reports that Amazon awarded $400,000 in grants to 41 grassroots projects across Newton, Butts, and Douglas counties through the Amazon Community Fund. Recipients could apply for up to $10,000 to support programs addressing STEM education, sustainability, food insecurity, and housing challenges. This program builds on earlier investments in Georgia by Amazon, including education equity initiatives such as Think Big Experiences and free technical training aimed at meeting workforce needs around AWS data centers.

Amazon’s long-term economic impact in eastern Oregon is also highlighted in the press release. Since 2011, the company has invested $39.2 billion locally, supporting an average of 8,320 full-time equivalent jobs annually. AWS contributed $11.8 billion to regional GDP during that period and paid $54.2 million in property taxes and fees in 2024. Continued investments include scholarships for data center students, new renewable energy installations, and expanded STEM partnerships intended to support economic mobility and community resilience.

According to Amazon’s corporate profile, the company operates global businesses in cloud computing, retail, logistics, and digital services while maintaining a commitment to community partnerships where its employees live and work. The company’s data center community strategy focuses on local skills development, equitable STEM education, sustainability, and hyperlocal social impact programs reflecting its long-term goal of strengthening regional economies around AWS infrastructure.
