Amazon has announced plans to launch drone deliveries in the UK through its Prime Air service. The company aims to start initial flights from its fulfillment center in Darlington, marking a significant step in expanding its drone delivery operations.

The new MK30 drone, which Amazon describes as its most advanced delivery drone yet, has undergone extensive safety and regulatory testing. It is designed to deliver packages with double the range and half the noise compared to previous models.

Amazon plans to submit a planning application to the local authority for permission to build flight operations facilities at the site. Additionally, they will seek authorization from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to operate drones in UK airspace. Once these approvals are secured, Amazon intends to begin hiring team members for the drone delivery launch.

The company is committed to working closely with the CAA as they develop a regulatory framework for commercial drone deliveries in the UK. Amazon also plans to engage with the Darlington community to address questions and gather feedback on this new delivery option.

In related news, Amazon’s Prime Air service has already commenced drone deliveries in Arizona, specifically serving customers in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area from their Tolleson Same-Day Delivery site.
