Amazon India announced on May 8 plans to launch 250 new Ashray Centers by the end of 2026, expanding from its current network of 100 facilities across cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The company said it will open 50 new centres by the end of May.
The initiative aims to provide dedicated rest spaces for all delivery drivers, regardless of whether they work with Amazon. Each Ashray Center is equipped with air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, mobile charging points, clean washrooms, first-aid kits and comfortable resting areas. The facilities are intended to help delivery drivers rest and recharge during their routes—especially during peak summer months. In 2025 alone, the existing centres in 16 Indian cities recorded over one million visits from delivery drivers across the industry.
To further support drivers along high-traffic routes who may not be near a fixed location, Amazon India has also introduced mobile “Ashray” units. These air-conditioned vans offer amenities such as seating areas, drinking water and Wi-Fi access directly along delivery paths.
Salim R Memon, Director Operations at Amazon India said: “The health, safety, and wellbeing of associates across our operations network is the topmost priority for us. Ashray was built on a simple idea — that every delivery driver, whether they deliver for Amazon or not, deserves a clean, cool place to rest during their workday. Scaling to 250 centres and taking these facilities directly to delivery drivers through our mobile units is a reflection of that commitment. This is also part of our broader investment of over INR 2,800 crore to strengthen associate safety, health and wellbeing across our operations network.”
Amazon operates in e-commerce and technology services while providing retail and digital offerings according to its official website.
