Apple continues to hold a strong position in the global smartphone market, with 1.56 billion active iPhone users worldwide as of 2026. The United States remains Apple’s largest single market, with approximately 150.7 million iPhone users.
According to data, the number of iPhone users has grown steadily over the years, increasing by about 100 million from 2024 to 2025. In the U.S., usage has risen by more than 80% since 2014, when there were just over 72 million users.
The company shipped 247.8 million iPhones globally in 2025, marking a year-over-year increase of nearly 7%. This figure outpaced Samsung’s shipments for the same period, solidifying Apple’s lead as the top smartphone seller worldwide.
iOS currently holds a global mobile operating system market share of 29.25%, while Android leads with just over 70%. In contrast to the worldwide figures, iOS dominates in the United States with a market share of nearly 60%, compared to Android’s roughly 40%.
Regionally, North America has the highest concentration of iOS users at more than half of all mobile devices (53.51%), while Africa remains Apple’s smallest market with just over 14% share. Europe and Oceania have intermediate levels of adoption.
Demographic data shows that women represent a slightly higher proportion of iPhone users than men—31% compared to 28%. Young adults are also significant adopters: those aged between 25 and 34 years make up nearly a quarter (23%) of all users.
Apple’s ecosystem continues to drive user engagement; in the U.S., about four out of five iPhone owners also use an Apple Watch.
Financially, Apple reported record revenue for its fiscal year ending in September 2025: $435.61 billion overall, with $209.69 billion attributed directly to iPhone sales—nearly half its total revenue. The company saw quarterly revenues rise by about 10% year-over-year during this period.
Among individual device models, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is currently the top-selling premium model globally, while the standard iPhone 16 is noted as having the highest shipment numbers overall.
In terms of app usage on iPhones, DeepSeek was recorded as the most downloaded app in February 2025 with over twenty-one million downloads globally. Other popular apps include ChatGPT and TikTok. On revenue rankings for apps in June 2023, DouYin led with approximately $372 million generated through Apple’s App Store.
Market analysts expect India to play an increasingly important role in Apple’s supply chain; projections suggest that up to half of all iPhones could be assembled there by 2027 as part of ongoing efforts to diversify manufacturing operations.
Overall, Apple’s strong product integration and brand loyalty continue to support its dominant position among both consumers and within its own financial performance.
