The International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced the selection of 23 startups for the 2025 Compute for Climate Fellowship. This program supports the development of innovative solutions to address climate change, utilizing AWS’s cloud computing and AI technology.
Davor Orlic, Chief Operating Officer of IRCAI, emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary solutions to tackle the climate crisis. “With this year’s cohort, we’re deepening public-private partnerships that unite industry, government, and research to harness AI for climate action,” he said.
The selected startups include 80 Acres Farm from the US, Aionics from the US, Amini from Kenya, Anthrogen from the US, Aura Aero from France, Avalo from the US, Barnwell Bio from the US, BeyondMath from the UK, Climate X from the UK, Climavision from the US, CounterCurrent from Australia, Cusp AI from the UK, Eavor Technologies from Canada, FortyGuard from the US, Fuse Energy from the UK, Matnex from the UK, Muir AI from the US, OnDeck AI from Canada, Pretred from the US, Rainstick from Australia, SXD from the US, Windfall Bio from the US and Xcimer Energy also based in America.
Jon Jones of AWS stated: “This fellowship is about fueling this momentum by backing solutions with potential to drive systemic change.” He highlighted advancements in clean energy and carbon capture as key areas of focus.
Previous participants have praised the fellowship’s impact. Kenny Lee of Aigen noted that it accelerated their AI model development significantly. Gilberto Loureiro of Smartex described it as impactful for scaling technologies in textile hubs globally.
The fellowship provides full funding for each startup’s proof of concept along with resources and mentorship aligned with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. IRCAI continues its mission under UNESCO to advance AI applications supporting these goals.
