Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., has announced the general availability of Amazon Aurora DSQL, a serverless distributed SQL database. This new offering allows customers to create databases with high availability, multi-region strong consistency, PostgreSQL compatibility, and enhanced read and write speeds.
G2 Krishnamoorthy, vice president of Database Services at AWS, stated that “modern applications require databases that can deliver both world-class performance and strong consistency without compromise.” He emphasized that Amazon Aurora DSQL reimagines distributed database architecture by enabling applications with virtually unlimited scalability and zero operational overhead.
Aurora DSQL is now available in eight AWS Regions with plans for expansion. Companies such as ADP, Cintra, Caylent, DeNA, and Robinhood are already utilizing the service to build resilient applications meeting strict business continuity requirements.
Jimmy Adams from ADP highlighted how Aurora DSQL’s features support their operations across multiple regions. Hiroyuki Nishizaki from DeNA noted the benefits of using a globally synchronized database through a single endpoint. Haotian Xu from Robinhood praised Aurora DSQL for simplifying horizontal scaling while maintaining strong consistency.
Customers can access Aurora DSQL via the console without upfront commitments and only pay for what they use. The service is available in several regions including US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Paris), Europe (London), Europe (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and Asia Pacific (Osaka).
