Amazon Web Services (AWS) held the Jakarta edition of its newly launched AWS AI League, a global competition focused on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and skills in generative AI. The event aims to give enterprises and developers practical experience with AI fundamentals such as fine-tuning, model customization, and prompt engineering while addressing real-world business problems.
Participants use AWS services like Amazon SageMaker AI and Amazon Bedrock in a collaborative environment that encourages experimentation and knowledge sharing. Developers compete for leaderboard prizes and have opportunities to connect with other AI enthusiasts.
The winner of the Jakarta event will receive the AWS AI League Jakarta Champion’s title and a place at the global championship finals at re:Invent 2025 in Las Vegas, where they can compete for a USD$25,000 prize. In addition to Jakarta, similar competitions will be held at AWS Summits in Bogota, Los Angeles, and Toronto.

AWS also announced it has trained over one million Indonesians on cloud skills since 2017 through localized programs aimed at organizations, workers, students—including high schoolers, vocational students, people with disabilities, small businesses, and underserved communities. Initiatives like Terampil di Awan provide cloud education across various groups in Indonesia. Another program called CendekiAwan works with university students as part of government-led efforts to prepare them for digital careers.
The AWS AI League builds on previous competitive learning platforms such as AWS DeepRacer—which has involved more than 560,000 participants worldwide since 2018—by expanding into generative AI challenges. The league offers up to USD$2 million in AWS credits along with access to technical resources. Enterprises can apply for credits to run internal competitions or individual developers can join events at select locations.
Since its founding in 2006, AWS has become one of the most widely used cloud service providers globally. It offers more than 240 services covering compute power, storage solutions, analytics tools—including those for machine learning—and operates from numerous data centers across several continents.
