Bandai Namco Entertainment has launched the Gundam Metaverse on Amazon Web Services (AWS), a platform designed to connect fans of the Gundam franchise globally. The metaverse, which became available on April 20 and will remain open until May 19, allows users to interact, shop, and engage with the Gundam universe via PCs and smartphones.

The metaverse is powered by Amazon GameLift Streams, providing high-quality graphics and low-latency access. This integration enables fans to explore immersive worlds, purchase exclusive merchandise, play mini-games with user-created models, and participate in virtual events. Language support includes English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Japanese.

Gundam is a well-known Japanese sci-fi franchise that began with the TV animation Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979. It has since expanded into various media forms. The latest series installment, ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’, started airing in April 2025 on Prime Video.

AWS’s collaboration with Bandai Namco Entertainment aims to enhance fan engagement through advanced technologies like Amazon Translate for real-time multilingual interactions. AWS Professional Services assisted in creating a secure game development environment that supports global collaboration among creators and engineers.

The integration of Amazon Anywhere allows U.S.-based fans to purchase physical items seen within the digital space directly from the metaverse. Nao Udagawa, President & CEO at Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., highlighted AWS’s role in connecting fans worldwide: “AWS has enabled Gundam fans in Japan and around the world to connect across borders.”

Akihiko Shirahata, President at AWS Japan, expressed excitement about expanding this cultural icon into digital experiences: “We’re excited to collaborate closely with Bandai Namco Entertainment to help expand a beloved cultural icon into immersive digital experiences.”
