Charter Communications has entered into a strategic agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to use generative artificial intelligence in its software development and operations. The partnership will make AWS one of Charter’s key providers for generative AI solutions.

Under the agreement, Charter is adopting GitLab Duo with Amazon Q Developer as its standard platform for software development. This tool, powered by AWS’s AI assistant, offers features such as agentic coding and advanced management of data and machine learning workloads. By using this technology, Charter aims to speed up the rollout of new features and improve services for Spectrum Internet, TV, and Mobile customers.

Jake Perlman, Executive Vice President, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Charter Communications, said: “Innovative technology from AWS provides opportunities to both leverage developer tools and build agentic solutions across the company. AWS technology enables us to develop AI-powered solutions that enhance our capabilities, ultimately improving customer experience, employee experience, and the overall performance and reliability of our services. We look forward to continued collaboration with AWS applying AI across our business.”

The collaboration also includes plans to use agentic AI solutions in other areas of Charter’s operations. Both companies intend these initiatives to benefit residential and business customers as well as employees by improving service reliability and connectivity.

Jan Hofmeyr, VP of Telecommunications at AWS, commented: “Q Developer represents the cutting edge of AI-powered software development, enabling developers to build faster and more efficiently than ever before. We’re excited to see Charter leverage Amazon Q Developer’s capabilities and access to Claude Sonnet 4.5, and we look forward to introducing them to additional solutions like Kiro, our AI companion offering that further enhances the development experience. This collaboration demonstrates how generative AI can transform enterprise software development at scale.”

Charter Communications serves 58 million homes and businesses across 41 states through its Spectrum brand. The company provides broadband internet along with mobile, TV, voice products, and related services.

Amazon Web Services is a major provider of cloud computing infrastructure worldwide. Since launching in 2006, it has expanded its offerings to include over 240 different services across various fields such as compute power, storage options, databases, networking tools, analytics platforms, machine learning capabilities—including artificial intelligence—Internet of Things support (IoT), security measures, media handling tools, application development resources among others. Its infrastructure currently spans 120 Availability Zones within 38 geographic regions globally.
