DoorDash announced the one-year anniversary of its partnership with the Equitable Commute Project (ECP) to expand safe e-bike access for Dashers in New York City. The partnership has provided hundreds of delivery workers with high-quality e-bikes, safer batteries, and safety guidance, with plans to extend the collaboration to further enhance safety initiatives across the city.

According to a press release by DoorDash, the company and ECP have partnered to provide delivery workers in New York City with access to safer e-bikes, reduce the risks associated with substandard lithium-ion batteries, and offer guidance on their safe operation. The partnership has been extended to further enhance safety initiatives across the city’s five boroughs, focusing on improving safety for Dashers through proven strategies and new efforts.

The demand for safe micro-mobility devices, such as e-bikes, has grown as they offer cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives for delivery workers. DoorDash has partnered with ECP to invest in affordable, certified e-bikes and work with stakeholders at all levels of government to curb access to unsafe devices and support the safe use of e-bikes.

According to ECP, it has connected 17 frontline workers in New York City with subsidized e-bikes and accessible financing options. It has also introduced an e-bike loan program through Spring Bank, providing small-dollar, low-interest loans via employers. Additionally, ECP has contributed to research and advised on five e-bike subsidy programs globally while advocating for practical e-bike policies in New York City and other regions.
