Airbnb announced on May 7 that the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to become the largest hosting event in its history, surpassing even the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company said that guest numbers during the tournament are projected to exceed estimates made by Deloitte, with more bookings in host city homes than at any previous event.

This development highlights both growing demand for short-term accommodations and Airbnb’s expanding community. Since October 2025, over 100,000 new homes have been listed in host cities for the first time, and about one in six guests booking stays during the tournament will be using Airbnb for the first time.

With just a month remaining before kickoff, millions of fans are preparing their travel plans while others continue making last-minute reservations near stadiums. According to Airbnb data, many entire-home listings remain available: “77% of entire-home listings still available for tournament-time stays are priced at under $500 a night.” The company also reported that “86% of entire-home listings were snapped up for less than $500 a night” by those who already booked their accommodations.

To assist travelers seeking affordable options, Airbnb is highlighting neighborhoods within host cities where many entire-home listings can still be found under $500 per night. A selection of such available-to-book properties is being shared on its website.

“The biggest sporting event on the planet is set to be the biggest hosting event in Airbnb history. For those yet to book, the good news is that Airbnb stays don’t have to break the bank — the majority of available listings are under $500 a night. And every booking puts money in the pockets of local hosts. It’s a win for fans, and a win for the families and communities hosting the world.”

Airbnb enables hosts to share homes and local experiences with millions of travelers worldwide according to its official website. The platform operates as an online marketplace connecting guests with unique accommodations across more than 220 countries and regions. Offerings include private rooms, entire homes, unique venues such as treehouses or boats, as well as experiences like cooking classes or guided tours.
