Chamber of Progress expressed gratitude to Governor Jared Polis for vetoing HB25-1291, a rideshare background check bill. The organization said that the bill could have compromised driver and rider safety.

According to Chamber of Progress Central Government Relations Director Kouri Marshall, “Governor Polis has consistently pushed Colorado to be a national leader for innovation and supporting working families. This veto once again demonstrates his commitment to those values.” Marshall added that if the bill had been enacted, it would have put Colorado at odds with other states and potentially deterred investment and job opportunities.

The proposed legislation included a private right of action and restricted the use of arbitration clauses, which conflicted with federal law. It also excluded rideshare services primarily serving children or those whose main clients are schools or government agencies. Chamber of Progress argued that this exemption left vulnerable riders without adequate protection.

The organization had previously urged Governor Polis to reject the bill and highlighted its various shortcomings during legislative discussions.
