GreenPal, a lawn care marketplace founded in 2012, reported on May 3 that it has processed over five million transactions across all 50 states and holds a 4.6 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot. In April, the company said that 96.2% of recent reviews were positive, with an average provider rating of 4.83 out of five across more than 315,000 bookings.

The review addresses the growing interest among homeowners in finding reliable and convenient ways to hire lawn care services online. GreenPal’s platform connects users with pre-vetted local professionals who submit bids for jobs, allowing homeowners to choose providers based on profiles and ratings.

Bryan Clayton, who co-founded GreenPal after over two decades in traditional landscaping, built the platform to address common frustrations such as unreturned calls and unclear pricing. The company does not directly employ service providers but facilitates connections between customers and independent contractors through its digital system.

To join GreenPal as a provider, applicants must undergo equipment verification with photos of professional-grade tools, provide customer references for past work quality, pass a business credit check for financial accountability, and complete identity verification through Stripe. Providers are then rated by customers after each job; those whose reliability drops below set standards lose access to new opportunities.

Payments are handled securely via Stripe’s PCI DSS Level 1 compliant system. Customers pay only after confirming completion through photo proof sent by the provider—adding an extra layer of consumer protection. However, since providers are independent contractors rather than employees of GreenPal itself, any property damage disputes must be resolved directly between homeowner and provider.

The average cost per visit is about $50 for standard residential lawns but varies depending on property size and other factors such as grass height or frequency of service. Unlike some competitors that require contracts or assign providers algorithmically, GreenPal allows users to select from multiple bids without long-term commitments or membership fees.

While most feedback is positive regarding convenience and transparency—especially the ability to compare bids quickly—some negative reviews point out that issues with individual service quality need to be resolved directly with the contractor rather than through GreenPal support.
