HealthEdge, a company known for its advanced core administrative processing systems and care management solutions, has announced its migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS). The move includes integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) and agentic systems into the company’s operations, products, and infrastructure. Loka, recognized as AWS partner of the year in 2024, will assist HealthEdge in this transition using Amazon Bedrock to develop AI applications.

“AI is unlocking opportunities that we almost couldn’t imagine a few short years ago. This is especially true in healthcare,” stated Robert Duffy, Chief Technology Officer at HealthEdge. He emphasized the importance of breaking down data silos within the healthcare industry and enhancing digital capabilities through AWS migration. Duffy highlighted that AI could extract value from vast amounts of data that traditional technology cannot handle.

HealthEdge’s transformation into an AI-native enterprise focuses on three main areas:

1. Workforce Efficiency: HealthEdge aims to incorporate AI tools across various functions like engineering and finance. The company plans to offload 15% of employees’ current work to AI over the next 12 to 18 months.

2. Product Enhancements: Integrating AI into HealthEdge’s platform is crucial for improving customer efficiency. This includes faster claims processing and easier information access through Large Language Models (LLMs).

3. AI and Agentic Platform: Building an AI-driven platform on AWS will ensure computational power and scalability for internal tools and product features.

Loka will collaborate with HealthEdge to accelerate this transformation, supported by AWS’s secure infrastructure. “AI is at its best when it’s working for you,” said Emily Kruger, CIO at Loka, highlighting the transformative potential of agentic AI in healthcare.

Ben Schreiner from AWS noted that Amazon Bedrock would enable HealthEdge to integrate AI capabilities swiftly, offering benefits such as reduced operational costs and improved decision-making accuracy while maintaining essential security standards.

HealthEdge aims to create a future without limits for health plans through an integrated platform offering solutions for administration, payment accuracy, provider network management, care management, and member experience. Trusted by over 130 health plans across 48 states, HealthEdge covers more than 110 million lives.
