Instacart has introduced its AI-powered Caper Carts at Wegmans Dewitt in Syracuse, New York. This pilot program marks the first deployment of these smart carts at a Wegmans location, aiming to enhance the in-store shopping experience.

Caper Carts are designed to provide customers with an efficient and seamless way to shop. They automatically recognize items as they are placed into the cart, allowing shoppers to bag their purchases while shopping. The carts use cameras, digital scales, and location sensors connected to NVIDIA Jetson hardware for this functionality. Shoppers can also log into their Shoppers Club account on the cart’s screen for a more personalized experience.

David McIntosh, Chief Connected Stores Officer at Instacart, commented on the launch: “Caper Carts are transforming everyday grocery shopping into a faster, more personalized experience.” He added that partnering with Wegmans allows them to deliver “a delightful and personalized shopping journey.”

The initiative represents Instacart’s ongoing efforts to integrate advanced technology into grocery shopping, enhancing convenience and efficiency for consumers.
