Kindle Scribe: new features allow writing directly in eBooks

Amazon has introduced the Kindle Scribe, a device that combines the features of an e-reader and a notebook. This product allows users to write directly on eBooks and take notes, aiming to replicate the experience of writing on paper.

The Kindle Scribe boasts a 10.2-inch glare-free screen with a 300 ppi resolution and an auto-adjusting front light. It offers customizable settings such as adjustable warm light, font sizes, and line spacing. The device is available in storage options of 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB.

A key feature of the Kindle Scribe is its Active Canvas, which enables users to write notes directly in books using a Premium Pen. The pen attaches magnetically to the device and does not require charging. Users can also annotate Microsoft Word documents and other reflowable documents.

For additional writing capabilities, Kindle Scribe offers 18 templates for creating notebooks, journals, and lists. It supports importing PDF files and Microsoft Word documents through the web browser or Kindle app for iOS and Android.

Writing tools include a pen, highlighter, and eraser with five thickness options each. These tools are available for use with sticky notes, notebooks, and PDFs. The screen auto-rotates to accommodate left- or right-handed users.

The device includes AI features such as notebook summarization and handwriting refinement to enhance note-taking efficiency. However, it is not waterproof.

Currently, Kindle Scribe does not sync with OneNote, Dropbox, or Google Drive but will soon support document transfers from Microsoft Word.

The battery life varies based on usage but can last up to 12 weeks for reading or three weeks for writing per day on a single charge. It charges fully in 2.5 hours with a 9W USB-C power adapter or seven hours via USB cable from a computer.
