Bank of Ayudhya PCL, commonly known as Krungsri, is expediting its cloud migration using Amazon Web Services (AWS). The bank, ranking fifth largest in Thailand, has managed to reduce its migration time by over 50% through the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI). This advancement forms part of a broader AI strategy aimed at enhancing financial management and crime prevention capabilities.

Krungsri employs generative AI agents, created with Amazon Bedrock, to automate the conversion of programming scripts from on-premises to cloud environments. AWS services such as Amazon SageMaker, AWS Lambda, and Amazon EventBridge support this transformation, effectively halving the migration time compared to traditional manual conversions.

The bank’s AI-driven approach not only facilitates current projects but also sets a foundation for future migrations and data transformation tasks. By crafting reusable AI assets, Krungsri ensures consistent code transformation across various projects, including scripts, data warehouses, and data marts. The bank is well-positioned to meet Thailand’s recent regulations banning accounts used for financial crimes.

Krungsri’s use of AWS services extends beyond cloud migration. They have developed AI-driven solutions for property valuation, which have significantly reduced the need for on-site assessments, saving the bank substantial costs and time. Additionally, Krungsri employs machine learning to optimize cash replenishment for ATMs, consolidating thousands of models into a few predictive systems to manage cash distribution more efficiently.

“At Krungsri, we’re not just moving to the cloud—we’re transforming how banking works with AI,” stated Tul Roteseree, head of Enterprise Data and Analytics Group at Krungsri. “By leveraging generative AI and machine learning on AWS, we are cutting cloud migration time in half and transforming our systems into cloud-powered solutions.”

Vatsun Thirapatarapong, AWS Thailand’s country manager, noted, “Krungsri is leading the way in modern banking by using AI and the cloud to protect customers and deliver smarter financial services. By leveraging AWS for generative AI, machine learning, and cloud scalability, Krungsri is enhancing fraud prevention capabilities, streamlining operations, and setting new standards for banking in Thailand.”

The collaboration with AWS started with Amazon Web Services establishing a comprehensive suite of cloud services since 2006, with millions of customers from diverse sectors relying on AWS to enhance agility and reduce costs.
