Lyft announced the launch of Pet rides in celebration of National Dog Day. This new feature enables riders to connect with drivers who are comfortable transporting pets in their vehicles.

According to Lyft, riders will incur a $4 fee plus tax for Pet rides, which is included in the upfront price. Drivers will receive the full amount of this fee for each pet ride. Pet rides are available nationwide. Riders can select the Pet option in the Lyft app, and a driver who is prepared to accommodate pets will be assigned.

“At Lyft, we believe that everyone belongs, and that includes our four-legged family members,” said Audrey Liu, Executive Vice President (EVP) of rider experience at Lyft. “With Pet rides, we’re making it easier than ever for pet owners to get where they need to go with their pets, while also encouraging responsible pet ownership and adoption.”

Lyft is also collaborating with local animal shelters and rescue organizations to promote pet adoption. During the launch period, riders will receive special promotions and discounts for adopting pets from participating shelters. While drivers can choose to opt out of Pet rides, they must still accommodate service animals.

“We are thrilled to partner with Lyft to introduce Pet rides. As a foster-based rescue without a physical shelter, this initiative will help our fosters immensely with transporting animals to our events, where they can meet potential adopters,” said Grace Coleman, operations volunteer at Waggytail Rescue.

Lyft is a transportation network company that provides ride-hailing services through its mobile app. Founded in 2012, Lyft offers a range of services including standard rides, luxury options, and shared rides, operating primarily in North America. The company focuses on leveraging technology to connect drivers with passengers.
