Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced the general availability of Oracle Database@AWS, enabling customers to run Oracle Exadata Database Service and Oracle Autonomous Database on dedicated infrastructure within AWS. This service is now accessible in the AWS U.S. East (N. Virginia) and U.S. West (Oregon) Regions, with plans for expansion to 20 additional regions globally.
The offering allows customers to migrate their Oracle Database workloads to Oracle Database@AWS while leveraging Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and the latest Oracle Database 23ai with embedded AI Vector capabilities. The zero-ETL integration simplifies data management between enterprise Oracle Database services and AWS Analytics services, facilitating seamless data flow and enhancing applications with AWS analytics, machine learning, and generative AI services.
G2 Krishnamoorthy, vice president of Database Services at AWS, stated that “enterprise customers can seamlessly migrate their Oracle database workloads to Oracle Database@AWS without rearchitecting applications,” benefiting from AWS’s global infrastructure’s security, resiliency, and scalability.
Karan Batta, senior vice president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, emphasized that “Oracle Database@AWS lets them run Oracle Database workloads on OCI in AWS,” which allows customers to utilize the full potential of Oracle Database 23ai for application development and mission-critical workloads.
Oracle Database@AWS offers a unified experience across OCI and AWS with integrated support from both companies. It simplifies database administration through reference architectures designed for trusted enterprise applications. Customers can benefit from simplified migration using tools like Oracle Zero Downtime Migration and resilient workloads supported by multiple AWS Availability Zones.
Organizations such as Fidelity Investments are leveraging this solution for digital transformation. Joe Frazier from Fidelity Investments noted its importance in maintaining enterprise-grade resilience essential for managing critical applications. Jim Fowler from Nationwide highlighted how it aligns with their cloud strategy to streamline operations while maintaining reliability.
Early adopters include sectors like telecommunications, energy, and financial services that report improved operational efficiency using this service.
Oracle plans further expansion of the service across more regions worldwide including Canada Central, Frankfurt, Hyderabad among others.
