Shipt has launched a pilot program in Utah aimed at enhancing the financial well-being of its app-based workers by offering them access to portable benefits. The initiative allows Shipt to contribute funds to a portable benefits account, which qualified shoppers and drivers can then use for various benefits.

Participants in the program have the flexibility to allocate these funds toward traditional benefits such as health insurance or retirement savings. For those like Mindy, who already receive traditional benefits from other sources, the funds can be directed toward needs like emergency savings, tuition, child care, or paid time off.

The feedback from users of Shipt’s platform suggests that portable benefits provide app-based workers with financial security while maintaining their desired flexibility. “Portable benefits offer app-based workers the additional financial security they want while preserving the flexibility they need.”

The Utah pilot is still underway, but early results and shopper feedback are promising. Shipt is optimistic about continuing its evaluation of what works best and identifying which features and benefit options are most valued by shoppers and drivers.
