The U.S. Census Bureau released new Business Formation Statistics for March 2026, according to an April 8 announcement.
The Business Formation Statistics (BFS) provide up-to-date information on new business applications and formations in the United States and Puerto Rico. These statistics are important for understanding trends in entrepreneurship and economic activity.
According to the Census Bureau, the BFS dataset includes twelve series: four related to applications and eight concerning formations. The data are published monthly with details available at national, regional, and state levels. Four of these monthly business application series also cover Puerto Rico as part of the standard BFS product.
The BFS offers both seasonally adjusted and non-seasonally adjusted data to give a comprehensive view of business formation patterns over time. The dataset is developed through research collaboration with economists from several institutions including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.
There was no news release associated with this announcement; it was distributed as a tip sheet only.
