Uber has announced enhancements to its processes for verifying courier identities in the United States. The company, which connects over 30 million people and deliveries daily, emphasizes the importance of trust on its platform. Uber is committed to maintaining safety and fairness for all users.

“While no system is perfect, we’ve built industry-leading processes and technology to verify the identities of couriers who deliver with us, and prevent fraudsters from gaining access to our platform,” a statement from Uber reads. The company aims to protect both couriers and consumers by ensuring accurate identity verification.

Uber’s updated measures include a multi-step screening process for new couriers. This involves background checks, document verification using external partners, profile photo validation, and technology to prevent previously banned individuals from rejoining the platform.

The company also focuses on ongoing fraud prevention once couriers are active. Measures include annual background checks, real-time ID checks using selfies matched against verified photos, intelligent fraud monitoring with machine learning models, consumer reporting options, and a human review process for potential fraud cases.

Resources are available for couriers through the Uber Driver app and online platforms to assist them in meeting requirements. Consumers can report discrepancies through the Uber Eats app or website.
