At Uber, the company is introducing new features aimed at enhancing the experience for women riders and drivers. The initiative, known as Women Preferences, allows women to have more control over their rides by offering options to be matched with other women.

The program will be piloted in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit within the next few weeks. For women riders, there are several new ways to choose rides with women drivers. They can request on-demand trips specifically with women drivers or reserve a trip in advance through the app’s Reserve feature. Riders can also set a preference for a woman driver in their app settings.

Women drivers will have the option to accept trips from women riders, even during peak hours like evenings. This gives them more opportunities to earn while maintaining flexibility and confidence. Drivers can activate or deactivate this preference through their app settings.

The Women Rider Preference was initially launched in Saudi Arabia in 2019 after a law granted women the right to drive. It has since expanded to 40 countries and completed over 100 million trips. Uber emphasizes that this feature is based on real feedback and has been refined through testing in various markets like Germany and France.

As Uber rolls out Women Preferences across the U.S., it plans to continue improving these features through education and partnerships.
