Uber Technologies Inc. has announced the launch of senior accounts and Simple mode, two new features designed to enhance accessibility and ease of use for older adults using the Uber app. This initiative aims to address the growing needs of the global aging population, which is projected to include nearly one in six people over age 60 by 2030.

According to Uber’s official newsroom, the company collaborated with aging advocacy groups and accessibility experts to ensure these new features provide a reliable and easy-to-navigate ride-hailing experience for older adults. The move aligns with Uber’s broader mission to make transportation more inclusive, particularly for those facing mobility or technological barriers.

The senior account feature allows family members to set up and support ride bookings through Uber’s Family profiles. It offers benefits such as trip tracking, a simplified app layout, and stored destination shortcuts. Seniors can utilize personal cards, family payment methods, or even a Medicare Flex card for medical transport. Simple mode, on the other hand, does not require participation in Family profiles but still provides an easier interface with larger text and reduced complexity.

As reported in the press release, both senior accounts and Simple mode are now available throughout the United States and are expanding internationally. Countries included in the initial global rollout are Taiwan, Hong Kong, India (Simple mode only), Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Portugal, France, and South Africa. Uber said that this is part of its long-term strategy to create age-inclusive products and better serve an evolving user base worldwide.

According to the Uber Newsroom, Uber Technologies Inc., founded in 2009 and based in San Francisco, is a global technology company offering mobility, delivery, freight, and autonomous services across more than 70 countries. The company’s platform connects users with transportation and logistics options through its core Uber and Uber Eats apps. Uber focuses on developing accessible products for people at all stages of life as part of its mission to reimagine how the world moves.
