Uber has announced a strategic partnership with ENSO, a finalist of The Earthshot Prize, to introduce energy-efficient and low-emission electric vehicle (EV) tires in the UK and USA. This collaboration aims to support ENSO’s international growth.

ENSO, based in London, specializes in high-performance EV tires that enhance range and minimize tire pollution. As part of this three-year agreement, Uber and ENSO will provide discounted tires to thousands of drivers through a dedicated Buyer’s Club.

London is recognized as Uber’s global hub for electrification, with nearly 30% of its miles being fully electric. Uber has established a ÂŁ145 million Clean Air Fund to assist drivers in transitioning to electric vehicles. The company claims to be the most extensive on-demand EV network worldwide, offering millions of zero-emissions trips monthly.

ENSO plans to expand by developing a $500 million carbon-neutral tire factory in the United States. Expected to be operational by 2027, this facility will employ over 600 people and produce more than five million EV tires annually.

This partnership marks Uber’s first collaboration with an Earthshot Prize Finalist and is part of a broader alliance with The Earthshot Prize, founded by HRH Prince William. As a Founding Partner, Uber will nominate climate solution start-ups for the prize. Winners receive ÂŁ1 million each year for innovative climate solutions along with mentorship from Uber engineers.

The announcement precedes Uber’s GO-GET Zero event in London on October 8th, where new sustainable features for drivers and consumers will be introduced.

Jill Hazelbaker from Uber stated: “Innovation is in Uber’s DNA and much more is needed to tackle the climate crisis. That’s why we’re partnering with The Earthshot Prize to offer Uber’s platform as a launchpad for groundbreaking solutions globally – especially those working to accelerate an all-electric future for our planet.”

Gunnlaugur Erlendsson of ENSO commented: “The world needs electric vehicles. They help combat climate change and eliminate harmful tailpipe pollution. ENSO’s mission is to make EVs more successful, by extending their range while reducing the pollution from their tires.”

Hannah Jones from The Earthshot Prize added: “The Earthshot Prize spotlights climate solutions from around the world… We are proud that the partnership between Uber and 2023 Earthshot Finalist ENSO… provides a perfect example of how the Prize can use its convening power to connect businesses with innovators.”

Uber aims to become a zero-emissions mobility platform globally by 2040 and across North America and Europe by 2030. Low-emission options are available in over 200 cities worldwide.
