Uber Technologies Inc. said Uber launched Cart Assistant, a new AI-powered feature in Uber Eats, according to a Feb. 11 statement.
The introduction of Cart Assistant is intended to help users build grocery baskets faster and with less effort. The tool allows users to search for a grocery store on the home screen, tap the purple Cart Assistant icon, and then either type a shopping list or upload an image of a handwritten list or recipe screenshot. The assistant automatically adds available items to the basket while displaying store prices and promotions, prioritizing familiar products from past orders. This feature is now available in the Uber Eats app according to Uber.
The move comes as online grocery delivery continues to grow rapidly. Mordor Intelligence reported that the online grocery delivery market has a compound annual growth rate of 21.68 percent and is projected to reach 2.43 trillion dollars by 2031. This expansion reflects increasing demand for convenient technology-enhanced shopping options that reduce time and effort, with platforms offering AI tools for faster basket building positioned to benefit from this trend according to Mordor Intelligence.
In the United States, Uber Eats supported hundreds of thousands of grocers and retailers, generating an estimated 9.4 billion dollars in economic activity for local businesses through delivery services, with grocery offerings forming a growing part of its business mix. New AI features such as Cart Assistant aim to improve order efficiency and user convenience across these categories, supporting merchants and enhancing consumer access to grocery delivery nationwide according to the Uber Merchant Impact Report.
Uber operates a global platform connecting riders with drivers and enabling food and grocery delivery through Uber Eats while providing freight and other mobility services in more than 70 countries according to the company. Dara Khosrowshahi led Uber Technologies as its chief executive officer according to the official website.
