Women hosting on Airbnb are projected to receive the majority of hosting income during the FIFA World Cup 2026, according to data released by the company on June 2. The tournament, which spans host cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, is set to be Airbnb’s largest event ever in terms of hosting activity.

Airbnb reports that women account for 53% of active hosts and over half (50.5%) of bookings during the tournament period. Additionally, nearly three out of five sign-ups for Airbnb’s $750 new host incentive—the company’s largest incentive program—are women. Brian Chesky, co-founder and CEO of Airbnb, said earlier this month that “the FIFA World Cup is set to be our biggest hosting event ever—surpassing the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.”

Dave Stephenson, Chief Business Officer at Airbnb, said, “The FIFA World Cup is set to be the biggest event in Airbnb’s history, and the majority of host earnings are expected to flow directly to women. We’re making it easier than ever to become a host, and women are leading the charge. At a time when many are facing real financial pressures, access to flexible income can make a meaningful difference.”

Several women hosts shared their experiences ahead of the tournament. Elisa from Toronto described her experience: “I hosted people from all over the world and we cooked dinners together, explored the city, watched movies, and shared countless laughs. It felt less like a transaction and more like a genuine cultural exchange and community experience.” She added: “Platforms like Airbnb give women the opportunity to build financial independence, express creativity, and create meaningful connections with people from all over the world.”

Gwenn from Kansas City said: “It’s special to know our home can play a small part in welcoming the world to Kansas City.” She noted that hosting has provided extra income supporting her family while allowing flexibility in their lifestyle.

Jennifer from Dallas stated: “Women have the ability to create experiences that feel deeply personal and memorable in ways large hotels often cannot.” She emphasized that many guests appreciate how cared for they feel during their stay.

Airbnb enables hosts worldwide—including those participating in major events such as this—to share homes or local experiences with travelers across more than 220 countries or regions through its marketplace platform, according to its official website.
