DoorDash has rolled out a new in-app toolkit called SafeDash to help its drivers feel safer and provide a quicker connection with emergency help in unsafe situations.

The company initially launched two new features and intends to further create and develop more resources that can be beneficial to Dashers.

“Our commitment to safety is central to what our teams at DoorDash work towards every day,” Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean, vice president of communications and policy at DoorDash, said in a press release. “We’ve heard from Dashers across the country who tell us that safety is a top consideration when choosing which platforms they work with. That’s why over the years, we’ve worked hard on new products, policies and partnerships that reflect what we hear from Dashers. SafeDash was born out of feedback from Dashers, and our hope is that with access to these tools, we’re giving Dashers yet another resource to feel safe and secure on the road.”

SafeDash is a new in-app toolkit powered by ADT and features Safety Reassurance Calling and an Emergency Assistance Button. Both features will allow Dashers to easily get ADT assistance when they feel unsafe or find themselves in an emergency situation. They can easily swipe a button to get connected. It also allows Dashers to provide additional information to ADT without needing to speak on the phone if they are not comfortable doing so.

The partnership allows ADT to access the Dasher's location via GPS, which will be given to authorities in the case that 911 needs to be contacted during particular situations.

DoorDash was the first in the industry to offer occupational accident insurance at no cost to employees in 2019. Dashers in Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco will be among he first users of SafeDash.
