Grubhub supports making alcohol to-go drinks for restaurants and bars permanent after seeing increased revenue for restaurants.

A recent report from Grubhub found that when restaurants added alcohol to their delivery menus, the average order value increased by $14-$15. A delivery driver who completes 100 orders a day could increase their daily revenue by $1,400-$1,500 or their weekly revenue by $9,800-$10,500. The top alcohol items delivered in Grubhub orders in 2021 were margaritas, Mexican beer and mango mojitos.

"It's 5 o'clock somewhere!" Grubhub said in an April 5 tweet. "Takeout & delivery of alcoholic beverages drives revenue for NY restaurants. We joined Gueros and the Dram Shop in Brooklyn in calling on the legislature to support @GovKathyHochul in making the policy permanent @NYdailynews."

New York allowed them during the pandemic, but the executive order expired in June 2021. Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) said in her State of the State address that she supports making alcohol to-go drinks a permanent option for restaurants and bars, Patch reports. She included the measure in her 2022-2023 budget proposal, but the New York legislature intentionally left the measure out of their budget resolutions. The Senate's resolution states, "The Senate intentionally omits the Executive proposal to allow on-premises establishments to sell wine or liquor drinks for take-out or delivery."

One restaurant reported that after the executive order expired in June of last year, their revenue through the Grubhub platform decreased by $3,000 over a month.

According to NY Daily News, 80% of New York residents are in favor of alcoholic beverages allowed to be purchased through delivery orders.
