Uber and Lyft drivers staged a 12-hour strike in front of the LaGuardia Airport in the Queens borough of New York City, according to a CBS article published on Sunday. Strikers' demands include a complete raise for operational expenses, an end to unjust driver deactivations, increased compensation for out-of-town rides, and either 85% of their fare or the full rate as listed by the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

Although the drivers had initially expected a pay increase of 7.8% per minute, Uber filed a lawsuit against the TLC, leading to a judge issuing a temporary restraining order.

"We are not here only to drive. We are here to protect our livelihood. We are here to protect our living," said one of the striking drivers.

"What we're witnessing is companies attempting to shift all costs to their workers while retaining all profits for themselves," said Queens Assemblyman Zohran K. Mamdani.

Lyft expressed its willingness to collaborate on methods to improve overall ridesharing, while Uber responded to employee complaints by arguing that its drivers recently received their third raise since 2020 and currently earn nearly $32 per hour.
