At Solo, the focus is on showcasing the stories of individuals within the gig worker and content creator community. This week, Luis Berti from DeliveryTV is highlighted for his contributions to the Spanish-speaking community through his work as a gig worker, videographer, and content creator.
Luis began his journey into gig work five years ago when his videography business was not generating sufficient income. "Five years ago, after a friend suggested it to me as a way to generate extra income since my videography business wasn’t making enough money for me," Luis recalls. This advice led him to explore new opportunities while maintaining flexibility in his creative pursuits.
One of Luis's key pieces of advice for those entering the gig economy is to diversify their app usage. "Not relying entirely on one app, having multiple sources of income. Apps are a part-time job," he emphasizes. This strategy has helped him stabilize his income stream amidst the unpredictable nature of gig work.
For Luis, balancing work and personal life involves understanding peak hours in gig work to optimize time effectively. "I know very well when I should be out on the street and when [not to be], which allows me to optimize my time," he explains.
His passion for creating content led him to start DeliveryTV, aiming to fill a gap in resources available for Spanish-speaking gig workers. "I’m a videographer, and I’ve always experimented with YouTube channels... So I decided to start a channel in Spanish where I could share my learnings." His YouTube channel now boasts over 83,000 subscribers and continues growing alongside his TikTok audience of over 115,000 followers.
A memorable moment during his deliveries involved receiving an unexpected tip—a bottle of perfume for his wife—highlighting meaningful interactions he's had as a gig worker. He also values personal time during deliveries: "Going out for delivery connects me with good music and audiobooks. I turn my car into a university."
Luis finds Solo's mileage tracker particularly useful in managing both his gig work and content creation efforts: "The mileage tracker seems super useful to me."
Despite spending much time in front of the camera, Luis describes himself as naturally shy: "I’m really shy; I don’t like being the center of attention... It’s funny because my life unfolds in front of the camera."
His essential gear includes items like a flashlight, hotbag, and Solo’s mileage tracker. Music plays an important role in staying focused while driving; he prefers ballads and chill-out music such as lofi or REIK albums.
During slow weeks, Luis stays motivated by diversifying his activities across two YouTube channels and various social media platforms: "I do many things; I have two YouTube channels and different social media platforms."
Through DeliveryTV, Luis aims to support Spanish-speaking gig workers by providing valuable information: "DeliveryTV is a media outlet... we try to be the Spanish voice for gig economy drivers."
