Douglas J. Herrington | CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores | Amazon website

Amazon Family, previously known as Amazon Household, offers users a streamlined way to manage and share select Prime benefits, services, subscriptions, and digital content among family members. This service allows the creation of shopping profiles for each adult member of the family.

Amazon Family serves as a central hub where users can oversee shared Amazon services and content. The service is accessible through account settings on both the website and the Amazon Shopping app. Users can add adults, teens, or children to their Amazon Family with specific options for inviting them based on age groups.

The composition of an Amazon Family can include up to one additional adult (18 years or older), four teens (ages 13-17), and four children. While children cannot shop on Amazon, teens have the capability to do so under certain conditions.

Prime benefits available for sharing within an Amazon Family include fast, free delivery; access to Prime Video streaming; a selection of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines; and exclusive deals like Prime Day events.

Additional features provided by Amazon Family include personalized shopping experiences through individual profiles that offer tailored recommendations based on personal shopping history. The service also facilitates easy sharing of digital content across family members through a Family Library feature.

Parental controls are also supported via individual child profiles that allow parents to manage access to books, games, videos, and set screen-time limits using the Amazon Kids Parent Dashboard.

Amazon Family ensures privacy among its members: adults have separate accounts that keep orders private from each other while providing oversight capabilities for teen purchases. For Alexa-enabled devices within an Amazon Family setup, switching between accounts is straightforward using voice commands.

Setting up and using Amazon Family incurs no cost beyond requiring at least one adult member to be a Prime subscriber in order to share those specific benefits.
