GreenPal has launched its Q2 survey to explore the potential shift from gas-powered to electric lawn mowers among current owners. The survey aims to gather insights into consumer considerations and preferences, with a goal of obtaining high-quality backlinks through media coverage.
The company acknowledges potential challenges, including public relations risks associated with media narratives on climate change. GreenPal believes that "the intersection of mass media, science and policy is a particularly dynamic arena of communication, in which all sides have high stakes," as noted by Boykoff and Rajan (2007). Despite these challenges, GreenPal anticipates minimal risk due to existing audience segmentation and the nature of the survey as an information-gathering effort.
GreenPal recognizes the growing demand for electric products and sees this survey as an opportunity to share valuable information. The company also plans to address perceived surveyor bias by clearly communicating the purpose of the survey: “The lawn mower market is expected to reach $38.24 billion by 2027, with electrical mowers and gas-powered mowers nearly splitting the market."
Survey logistics include a target of 1,250 respondents across all 50 states, focusing on homeowners or renters who mow their lawns. The survey will not cap maximum age but will set a minimum age limit of 21 years old. Respondents will answer questions about yard size, mower preference, buying intent, power perceptions, environment type, lawn difficulty, battery reliability, research conducted on electric mowers, and professional mowing services.
GreenPal's initiative comes after reviewing previous studies like The Farnsworth Group's 2022 study. GreenPal aims to differentiate its data by focusing on buyer intent and logistics around yard size and terrain type.
Overall, GreenPal hopes that the collected data will provide insights into market trends and help craft content capable of earning backlinks from high-ranking media outlets.
